Thanks very much for your reply; can you please advise me where I add the extra recent charges on the letter. The first paragraph states cherges from Jan 01 - May 09; isnt this period too long?

I really want to get this letter correct

I wouldn't spend too much time on this because all you will receive (if you receive anything) is a template letter, but you could try replacing the first paragraph with something like this:-

Further to my letter of ******* I have still not received a satisfactory response or a refund of these charges that your company has levied from my account from January 2001 to May 2009 amounting to £xx. Furthermore, since writing on ******* a further £***** has been removed from my account in unlawful charges.

Just an update on me; I got me new account at NAT WEST, just a bank account with standing order. dd and cheque book.......... I have also sent my new details to HR at work and asked to have my wages paid into new account. This is because Abbey are taking £450 out of the £2000 overdraft I have and this will commence in June. I cannot afford this sort of money in one go, so I will have me wages paid into natwest and then make an agreement with Abbey to pay it back over several months rather than in one go.

However I am concerned as I also have a recent ISA and a savings account with Abbey, with a little money in them. will Abbey take my money out of these accounts? to pay off my overdraft I mean

Possibly. They can offset between savings and current accounts.

If your savings account has money in it will probably be earning a paltry rate - would it be more worthwhile using savings to pay the overdraft up ?

If not, then yes I would relocate it.

Thanks hun; Well i hardly have any charges at the moment and it is keeping me afloat and I am really trying to avoid any further charges.........................will I still be able to claim my charges back? even if I eventualy close my account

yes if the accounts closed you can still reclaim the charges
