  • Law firm I was paying Stat Demand to has been closed by SRA?!

Basically a follow up from this thread: http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...etter-received

The expected payment wasn't taken yesterday as it should and I tried to phone but the lines were dead. After a bit of googling I found this:
    http://www.sra.org.uk/consumers/soli...564712.article

Where do I stand, do I have to pay the intervening agents? No notice was given and if I hadn't searched I would not have known they had been closed down.

I don't want them to start legal proceedings against me again.

    Thanks in advance.

    Help and more information

A decision to close a practice

We can, in effect, close a practice. We call this an "intervention". An intervention is a step taken to protect clients' interests and money, in the public interest. It is a protective measure, and does not necessarily mean we have made any findings against a regulated firm or individual.
We may publish a decision to intervene into a firm or into the practice of an individual.
The main things that we do during an intervention:
    • Stop the firm from operating; take possession of all documents and papers held by the firm (including clients' papers), and
    • Take possession of all money held by the firm (including clients' money).

Legislation gives us a range of reasons for intervention. These are known as "grounds".
    We can intervene if
    • there are grounds to intervene, such as suspected dishonesty, and
    • an intervention is needed to protect the public.

If you are the client of a firm that we have closed in this way, read more about interventions. You can find advice on what to do next and how to claim back money and papers that we may be holding.
Employees and trade creditors of firms that we have closed can also find guidance on what to do next. Legal professionals and experts may also be able to claim money for fees that they are owed.

Bloody hell. That's quite a suprise (I've been half asleep throughout Christmas)

Best thing is to contact the intervening agents and ask them.

At last they have been shut down, they accepted anything from credit card companies and agreed without consent by customer any offer regardless of amount offered.

I was paying back in installments. I've only paid one and the next was due yesterday.

I will email the intervening agent when I get home and got everything in front of me and see what they say.

Nope, I'd contact them, keep a record. This installment plan was made off the back of a stat demand being issued so the OP should be proactive in ensuring that threat doesn't return - keep a record of calls/emails.
