i am trying to avoid paying a"debt"which occured thru no fault of my own.my flat(social housing)was flooded by a leaking pipe(a yorkshire joint under floor failed due to footfall).on top of this a service charge of £5-19per week is charged for communal lights even though they were switched off for 13 weeks.i was unable to stay there for 9 weeks due to the waterlogged state of the floor.i claimed compensation for my carpets & reimbursement of rent they are saying it was my fault & refused this.the reasons they gave for refusal were barefaced lies. i have done a bunk.i know they can trace me as my pension is paid into the same bank as my rent was paid from & there is no other way to receive my pension.i could pay this "debt"but am unwilling because of the circumstances.i hate being trodden on & ripped off.if i get a solicitor(£175per hour)the landlord will drag it out.how do i stay beneath their radar?

It would be better to sort it out head on than run away from it as it will only crop up again in the future and be a lot bigger.

So your flat was social housing, was it housing association or council ? Did you make a formal complaint to them ? How far did you take the complaint ? or have you just 'done a bunk' at first refusal ? Have you visited Citizens Advice for assistance dealing with this ?

social housing.the leak was in march & they just took forever getting round to repairs.they take weeks toreply to letters or ignore them.they just totally take the p--s.its unbelieveable.i had to get out & away from it all.

You can run but you cant hide?
If you have a Bank account or your name and address are on record anywhere they may find you DCAs and creditors have ways to find people who disappear of the radar I know how they found ne I don't know lucky for me I ignored the letters and they went away.

Running away from it isn't going to help I'm afraid .... you need to visit your local CAB or MP and see if they can intervene on your behalf!
Put in formal complaints about the handling of these issues with the housing provider and follow their complaints procedure through to the end.

If this is a Local Authority home address a complaint to the Council CEO and copy it to your local council member, you may be surprised how quickly you get a response.

i did go to the citz advce they were worse than useless.there 1hr20min,was given 2 phone nos. 1no use other couldnt help for 6 months after id went thru landlords complaints procedure.thanks for all replies.
