I think we all have to accept, that compensation claims are the first thing people think off if they are harmed or wronged.
Money makes the world go round :hail:“The only man who sticks closer to you in adversity more than a friend, is a creditor.”

The second incident was in a Tesco fuel station where a man tried to claim off my insurance policy for damage in the tyre pressure pull in - he had pulled in in the split second between checking mirrors and reversing, and again the speed was almost zero. He tried to claim for an entire new bumper for his BMW and was very put out when he realised that while talking to my wife getting my insurance details I'd taken photos of everything showing zero damage.
Neither was paid out, but BOTH show on searches and have to be disclosed, bumping up my own premiums which always feels a little unfair to me.
I have no issue with genuine claims at all.
As for the existence or otherwise of a compensation culture, a Google of 'Compensation culture in the UK' would suggest the jury is out, though probably in favour of one existing, save for one high profile court case.

Re: Bailiffs demanding money from my 6 year old daughter
The jury that matters Government, Insurers AND the legal profession know there is no such thing as a compensation culture A number of studies have been made both by the government AND insurers, which confirm there's no such thing but don't expect either of them to shout about it as it's not in their interest. It's best to demonise victims for their so called greed
People making false claims have been around since the beginning of time (Read Genesis). Even the Saxons paid compensation for injury or death
Also the insurers have been forced to apologize when confronted with their falsehoods. Unfortunately the MSM does not publish these retractions Only the legal press publishes these apologies the MSM are not interested

Re: Bailiffs demanding money from my 6 year old daughter
I really don't get this perception that there is a "compensation" culture which is new,
If one suffers loss or damage it is only right that one is either put back into pre damage position, or is paid "damages".
If the person who allegedly caused the damage doesn;t agree the injured party can go to court, and if he wins the court sets the amount of damages.
Insurance companies will sometimes settle out of court if it is not clear about the fault and it is cheaper than going to court. That is a commercial decision.
To say"There remains a significant number of people who are trying to claim for injuries which simply don't exist (or indeed damage to vehicle)." is a sweeping generalisation.
From where do those figures come?
No ins co. I ever had dealings with would pay out a third party claim without scrutinising it very carefully, (but that was in the days before claims companies settled claims)

And on the compensation culture front, I'm more on the if you trip over a kerb that's your own damn fault, if someone runs into you through no fault of your own and injures you then you should be reasonably compensated... and I don't tend to be taken in by any propaganda, just my own experiences and slightly fluffy cotton wool cosseted opinions.#staysafestayhome
