I currently live in merseyside and I was told to visit bury market, which we did it is around any hour or so's drive , we parked in a car park which we now know was called DW Sports Bury car park, we drove in parked and then walked over to a pay and display machine bought a ticket, and displayed it in the car, we arrived at 10.51 and left at 12.28, we have now received a PARKING CHARGE NOTICE, for £85 or £50 if we pay before 14/3/13. Stating that the car park we parked in was in fact a 30 minute free parking zone and after i spoke to Bury council it seams we had bought a ticket for the adjacent council car park, we were completely unaware that they were separate car parks as there is only a paved walk way that separates them, this was a genuine mistake. But people have advised me to ignore the letters even when they start getting nasty, but i don't want and CCJ' s on me,,,, PLEASE HELP:-) If it was a local car park then I could go and asses it and then put an appeal together but as its such a distance away I can't

Re: Parking eye .
You should do one of two things:
1. Ignore entirely - you'll get a series of about 5 or 6 letters, each more threatening, then they will stop.
2. Appeal to POPLA and then, if your appeal fails (as is likely), then ignore as per one. The advantage of this one is that it costs the Private Parking Company £32.40 which they have to pay within 30 days. As more and more people are doing this, the PPC's are beginning to feel the pinch and before long, it is likely some will go out of business altogether.
The 'ticket' is nothing more than a speculative invoice.

If the parking fee for staying beyond the 30 minutes was zero, then their claim must fail, if it was £2 per hour, the loss is less than two quid, so again to demand £85 is a penalty, which is unlawful under the law of Contract that governs these PPC parasites, for further info, go to peppipoo, and the MSE parking forum, where you can read all about these parasitic muppets Parking Eye. Ignore them unless they send court papers.

Re: Parking Charge Notice - Help Needed
Actually, it would be better for you to appeal against it to POPLA, which will cost you nothing and which will cost the parking parasites about £37. When the appeal is lost, you can then ignore it until and unless they actually take you to court, which is unlikely.
If they did try to sue you and you defended the case, they would probably lose.
