  • Brown v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, 7 October 2016

Haven't seen this pop up here but could be useful case on privacy laws

A London County Court has awarded a former police officer £9,000 in damages for breach of privacy and data protection laws. The Claimant went on holiday whilst on sick leave and failed to notify her manager in breach of police policy. During the disciplinary process, an officer requested flight passenger information on the Claimant and also which airline she used. Liability was admitted and it was a case of determining the damages.

I recall reading it, but not sure if it is on here - I think it's the judgment from this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37167741 - so damages of £9k. Good, as it should be.

Never came across it on the BBC but looks like the same case, £80k in costs though.. eyewatering just for a claim in the CC? Did she have any other claims cause that seems pretty high for a case to come before the CC.
