Ooopsy. I'm sure the council will issue tickets to everyone they caught on camera in the bus lane, so I'd just worry about your own ticket.

You can sometimes fight these if the signage wasn't clearly visible when he entered the bus lane so he didn't know it was during one of the operational periods.

I frequently see the signs 'knocked sideways' presumable by the tall double-decker buses!

I should also add that bus lanes aren't exclusive to buses - some vehicles are allowed to use them so maybe the car behind your son's vehicle was permitted to enter the lane.
