  • NHS prescription and dental charges

hello iam wondering if anyone could help me please last october i had dental treatment and a prescription which being on working tax credits i thought i was entitled to free of charge back in january this year i have received a letter for both of these saying iam not entitled to free nhs prescriptions i paid for the dental treatment on receipt of the letter and i rang and spoke to them saying that i was signed off sick from work (i been signed off sick unfit for work from 3/1/17 to present day) i told them iam in receipt of Statutory Sickness pay and thats all i am claiming and having a struggle to meet paying my rent and household bills and the charges they have raised against me for 242.00 i just dont have i got told i HAVE to pay it i felt like a criminal i didnt not realise that prescription exempt for working tax credits had stopped they just wont listen to me and iam already stressed and anxious with being off sick at the moment i have last week applied for PIP my finances wont stretch to paying this charge i got told i have til 2 july to pay with what i feel is a silent or else im worried sick as to how i can pay 242 which i just dont have can they send me to prison? i would appreciate any advice thank you x

pity you will have to pay we did or they add charges automatically on, in O.Hs case seems at the time she was on wrong Jobseekers allowance which we knew no different , then when chased no income only my small pension= they did not want to know and stated pay or else more charges, the state of this country is in. they cannot care any mistakes you make i.e. £16+ turns to £79+ pay or else pay more no way out.

thankyou Mike770 its ridiculous i mean if they are going to make a charge make one that is fair the woman i spoke to said i wasnt the only one!!! so they are well aware of the distress, stress and anxiety they put ppl thro she said it was to stop fraud and prescription addicts i said im not an addict iam awaiting surgery and was on medication for my knee pain killers im still under my doctor still waiting for the op still off work the only reason i applied for working tax credits over 7 years ago; i wasnt informed this had stopped even when i went to get my prescriptions the staff would say are u on any credits id say yes working tax and they say tick box blah i would have thought one of them would have said oh no working tax credits is prescription exempt i would have gladly paid for the services

never once told no working tax credits is no longer mind you know i can see why why settle for 53.00 for dental treatment when they add on 142 in a charge even thou i have made the payment back so they keep sticking charges on how is this fair when no one informs you tax credits is no longer dental and prescription exempt and you tell them you didnt do this with any criminal or deliberate intentions when i am working iam on 12,950.00 a year and now signed off sick and besides myself with worry

priority is to pay off what you owe, it will keep increasing if not paid to an extent you will have bigger tooth problem:- whitening is a luxury , you were told that you have to pay and cost are escalating the longer you fail too,, might not be the answer you like but that is the rule in this country, you were informed in earlier post, and failed to heed!

ok you paid up like the rest of us (we were annoyed as well at the time & nobody wanted to know when complained about different income requirements and dentist failing to explain to us.)
