So a lump sum has been taken from your account without your knowledge. What shows on your bank statement ? - Is it a card payment or a bank transfer ? Was the transfer/payment under or over £10k ? SIngle payment / Multiple Payments ?#staysafestayhome

Ok pat09,
To be able for people to help you we are going to need more detail.
You started by saying you won some money and put it in a Nationwide basic account.
Went on holiday on return your card was declined?
You got in touch with the bank and your debit card was cancelled and were told investigations would take 3 days?
This was 3 months ago and so far you have been told £60,000 has been recovered and is going back into your account?
The person at the bank accused you of breaking the law and closed your account ?
Is that all correct and waht is the situation now if not correct.
You mentioned on another thread that DD were not paid so your pet insurance was cancelled?
Were there other DD that were affected?

Did you speak with the Police and Action Fraud ?
The payments to Ladbrookes - were they yours or part of the theft/fraud ? Do you have any idea why they are accusing you of having broken the law?
There may be an element of money laundering procedures in place which would restrict what the bank can tell you. The money paid in that you won, where did that come from and was it verifiable by the bank ?#staysafestayhome

Re: Nationalwide !!!! Keep away money from them cos u will end up bankrupt like me..
This thread attracted my attention because I opened a Nationwide Flexi Basic account nearly a year ago, and I've never had any problems with it, however, your opening post sent a shiver down my spine, saying that tens of thousands of pounds have vanished from your account!
In most countries, when you pay in a large amount of money into a bank account, the bank will require documentary evidence of where the money came from, I've recently had that issue brought up by a Spanish bank. What they say is that, if a large transfer or deposit is made, the money wouldn't go into the account unless they received the evidence. The Nationwide should have asked you to prove where the money came from. To avoid all this confusion, it may be best to put everything in writing rather than just speaking to people. I would ask the bank whether the money has been recalled from the account because it could not be verified to their satisfaction.
You say you are not English, if your English isn't 100%, get yourself someone who can act as an interpreter for you so you can be sure what they are saying and also what your reply is. Even when you are more or less familiar with the language, you'll be surprised how much can get lost in translation, especially when it comes to legal and financial terminology.

If you have already complained to the bank in writing and got no response, you can escalate your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman, but you need to show that you have formally complained in writing rather than just talking to people over the phone which, in my experience, often results in even more confusion.
