  • PRA Group on Credit Report

    Hi there,

I have a 'debt' of £1800 that is showing up on my Credit Report owing to PRA Group. It is from August 2011 however they haven't contacted me in any way and I didn't know I owed this until I logged in to my report recently. I assume it is from payday loans as I stupidly took a couple out when I was in a tight spot years ago, however to my knowledge I paid back what I owed and never borrowed anywhere near £1800.

I am desperate to get this off of my credit report ASAP, however am conscious that in 10 months it will have been 6 years so will drop off.

I was thinking perhaps I would contact them (to reiterate, they haven't contacted me at all) and offer to pay £200 or so in return for them removing the debt from my credit report. The alternative is that I leave it and it becomes un-enforceable in 10 months so they won't get any money. This way they get a bit of money and I get the item removed from my credit report sooner than in 10 months time.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this and think it could be a solution? Is there any terminology I should use when negotiating? Will they be able to remove all trace of it on my credit report? e.g. I don't want it registered as a partial payment.

    Thanks for your help!!!

Re: PRA Group on Credit Report

Stop! even if you paid it , stays on credit record - so what is the use, awakening sleeping dogs? even partial/full would be registered! let sleeping dogs lie unless they contact you then get back on here rapid!

Other point as you say SBd soon so if you contact now that is the end of the SBd argument!

Hi holiday11 & welcome to LB.

It may be that this is statute-barred. (No payment or written acknowledgement by you since the date when any cause of action 'accrued'). The date of the Credit Reference entry is not necessarily a firm indicator of this date. It is always worth checking the actual date of your last payment, or when you last acknowledged it in writing.
If you do make an offer, you need to be careful that you do not acknowledge the debt in any way. That may reset the SB 'clock'.
A 'without prejudice' offer is possible; via a third party is better.
