  • Sigma Red & Payments Place - bank details?

I have made 2 payments to Sigma Red using the link on their website to Payments Place. I have just tried to make my May payment but the link from Sigma to Payments Place gives an "Ooops, you are having problems" page. I log in and try to make a payment as usual but it claims not to recognise Sigma Red!!!!!!
Does anyone have SR's bank account details so that I can make my payment? Apparently when you call SR they want all manner of personal details before they will answer your questions - I'm not happy about calling SR but may be forced to.

            Hi Charity
            Sorry, I missed your reply.
I note that the parent company's FCA authorisation has lapsed. What are the implications, if any?

Hover your cursor over the word 'lapsed' on the FCA Register.

As far as I know, if they do not have authorisation, it is an offence to conduct regulated activities.

If it were me, I'd email the FCA for info.

Thanks Kati. I'm not going to pay anymore and will wait to see what happens. But I will now go and "hover my curser" over 'lapsed' on the FCA website as Charity recommended. I think they are most likely in breach of the FCA regs. I'll keep you posted.

Well, I just "hovered my curser" and the FCA said that Sigma Red's parent company is no longer permitted to conduct consumer credit activity and therefore, I assume that includes Sigma Red? I think that says it all - I imagine someone else will buy the debt but I hope they get all of the paperwork or I have just won a free kitchen (that's what the original loan was for). It pleases me as Compass and others have told me that the original lender, GE Money are one of the most awkward of lenders. But they have clearly sold the debt on to Sigma.
I will email the FCA to see what the implications are. Perhaps I'm expecting too much from this?

I need some good news as I had a flood and two other water leak problems over the Bank Holiday (why do these things happen over holidays?). The flood is an underground hot water leak so we have no hot water. There was another flood from a dishwar shefault and a kitchen tap is leaking profusely. Fortunately, following a very similar underground hot water leak over Christmas 3 years ago (it cost over £4000 for my insurance company to rectify the damage), I upgraded my insurance to cover 'finding the leak' - everyone note that this part of a domestic leak is not covered and cost hundreds of pounds just to locate the leak. Last time I had to pay for the expensive excavation process - they had to dig up about a third of the kitchen but Royal & Sun Alliance were brilliant and replaced kitchen units, carpets, 2 kitchen doors and redecorated nearly the entire downstairs areas - this time we have caught it early and turned the water off. I'm freezing. I'll never leave R&SA; they were brilliant, unless they play difficult this time - talking to them tomorrow - ears crossed.
But Stepchange objected to my 'expensive' Home Serve Plumbing and Flooding cover at £20 per month!!! They also objected to the random savings of £50-£100 per month, when able, for house maintenance and therefore I currently have enough to cover the short-term costs and insurance excesses. It doesn't rain, it floods!

Yup, that was the problem 3 years ago, and no doubt it has now burst elsewhere. The plumber/insurance company referred to it as 'Polish Piping'. Apparently, inferior copper piping was used in the late 80s and often was not lagged, hence it corrodes over time (usually 15-30 years). I had the burst section replaced with 'British Piping' and lagged. I wish I could get some recompense from the original builders. Surely, the building is not fit for purpose and this inherent ongoing problem would make it near impossible to sell if the damp cannot be fully eradicated - but I bet I would lose if I tried to sue them. And I hope the insurance company treats this as a separate claim. I wonder if they will continue to insure the property? Any thoughts on suing the builder?
Sorry Charitynjw, I didn't understand the bit in red above????

Would the insurance co pay for replacement, especially as it is likely to be repeated?

You did well to find the Clanchatton Birmingham (Sigma Red) FCA report - I searched on their website and it didn't recognise the name; zero results. i had to keep going back to your earlier post to find the FCA page.
I hope I get a decent response from the FCA - we shall see, But as you say, if I can't pay online, and their payment system has shut down, I doubt they will do anything other than write to me explaining how I can make payments; I get the feeling they are no longer dealing with 'consumer credit activity' having lost FCA authorisation. And I will ask that question if they write to me; the value and joy of them not having my phone number!!!
