  • Green scheme Birmingham could someone advise me please

My Mother in law received a cold call about loft insulation. She agreed an assessment which was duly carried out. She is 81 and her husband is 83 neither capable of making sound judgements.

An assessor called yesterday and took pictures of every room, her husband was not present as he is partially bed bound at another part of the house however he is the person who pays all the bills.

There is a certain animosity between husband and wife and she asked the assessor if the works could be carried out without his consent.

The assessor said that would be ok and he wouldn't know it had been done !!!!

The house is a bit of a wreck and they both refuse to leave....loft insulation would be totally useless.

I have tried to contact the company but to no avail....what should be my next course of action

As a foot note my MIL lives in a rural part of Oxfordshire

    Many thanks in advance

If they're at the assessor stage there shouldn't be any obligation.

What is the name of the company?

      Sorry I lost internet connection

The company is Green deal centre based in Birmingham.

The assessor said it is free and her husband won't have to know anything about it

Hi, If this ECO scheme and they are on pension credit then I do believe it will or should be free.
Not understanding how the husband won't have to know anything about it.

Ok I may be wrong here but to be on the safe side I would give the energy saving advice service a call. They will tell you if they are eligible or not and if what is being offered is indeed going to be free.
The Green deal scheme the government backed is no longer running, but there are others schemes in place until 2017, so maybe all will be ok.

According to their site there is a charge for an 'assessment'.

In order to qualify for Green Deal finance or an ECO Grant your property will first have to undergo a Green Deal Assessment. This will have to be done by an accredited Green Deal Assessor and will normally incur a charge, although we might be able to help with this.

Were your parents notified about the charge? Is there any correspondence from them?

Many thanks enid, I finally got through to them and cancelled the installation , had a few words exchanged and they aren't happy. My husband is going to be there on the date that installation was arranged for to make sure they don't turn up

Good. Thier website looks dodgy as it doesn't state their company details which is a legal requirement.

I did and I also told them that if their deal is so good I'm sure there will be plenty of takers to fill the installation date, but there will be no available access to anyone of that nature at MIL's :-)
