There may be an alternative trading company, or the company may have been dormant at last accounts period but not in current period.

no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period.
Bit tough to look into it without knowing the company.

Hi the trading company would I presume have to registered with the SRA ? the other company is dormant so are all the directors companies. in fact they have all been dormant for many many years.

however I have paid £1000;s of pounds to a company that is dormant , how does a lay person know whom they are trading with?

Hi the SRA have stated they are NOT REGULATED not if the company is dormant . which is very confusing for laypersons. It would be a breach of the SRA regulations, according to the SRA. the solicitor name is regulated

Okay. Possibly you want to be looking at Rule 21 Solicitors code of conduct rules - separate businesses.

Have you called the SRA and asked them about the firm/solicitor ? or is that from various guidance etc ?

So you are concerned that you have paid £1000's to a solicitor who, although personally regulated, is invoicing via a company that is not registered as trading nor registered with the SRA as a solicitors firm.

Is there a dispute/issue with the payment made ?
