Hi, I am hoping there is someone out there who can give me some advice. I started a CELTA course on 23 September 2014 and after the 2nd Input session the tutor asked me to help him out by being a tester for NLP. He asked me three questions and then said he would need to approach someone else as I was not giving the necessary NLP signals he required. He then asked 2 other people and they used eye movements which were applicable to his requirements. I asked why I was not useful in this test and he replied that my eye movements were symptomatic of a Psychopath as I did not use normal eye movements when answering the questions. Later on he wrote a paragraph up on the whiteboard and asked me to read it out loud. When I did he said that my English (after years of Speech and Drama lessons) was unrepresentative of the English spoken today, and I would need to teach the students a form of 'street language' according to a book that one of the Tutors in the school had written. I was so embarrassed and upset, especially as we had been taught never to criticise students in front of a class, as it would impair their progress and make them frightened to speak up again. I thought schools had a duty of care to students and trainees to ensure that they were not in surroundings which undermined or intimidated them. I paid £890 for this course and decided I could not return after 4 lessons as I felt I had been singled out by my tutor. When I left the classroom that evening one of the trainees called out 'goodbye Posh Psycho' to my embarrassment. The head of the school apologised on the tutor's behalf and so did he, but I had already felt stigmatised and do not want to return to the school. I have asked for a pro rata refund and the Head has refused it and has not replied to any more letters. Any advice who I should approach please?

Re: Verbal Abuse - Hi everyone I am new here
Had a quick look at your posting.
Could you tell us what sort of establishment this school is ; private, council,LEA or whatever?
Somehow you need to obtain proof of the bullying.
Would any of the other students support your claim?
I don't suppose the apology was in writing?
You could try writing to the Head, confirming all that has passed and asking him to reconsider his refusal to refund your fees.
If he writes back without denying the facts you could then contact the schools owners and finally issue a claim in the County Court for return of your fees and compensation if they refuse.
There is possible slander (I assume your eye movements are not symptomatic of a psychopath) and also a breach of the Criminal Justice & public Order Act 1994 (causing another person harassment, alarm or distress by using threatening abusive or insulting words.
I'm sure others will be along soon with more suggestions for you to consider.

CELTA training courses are designed for people with no previous teaching experience. During the course, candidates develop familiarity with the principles of effective teaching and a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners. The course includes teaching practice, observation of experienced teachers in the classroom and completion of a range of practically focussed written assignments.
One of the great things about NLP is how it makes communicating with others more successful… and easy.Take the famous NLP Eye Accessing Cues or NLP Eye Movement Directions. At a good in-depth NLP course you can acquire skills in using these in two or three hours yet, when communicating with someone, this skill provides you with important information about:
Whether the person is paying attention to what is going on around them, or is paying attention to their internal feelings or mental images or sounds, or is sub-vocalising i.e. silently talking to themselves When it's OK to speak to them versus when it is best to remain silent and allow them 'space' to think How the person would prefer you to behave with regard to them such as, for two examples, how close to them to position yourself or whether to speak quickly or slowly How their thinking may be causing them difficulties or limiting their options in a particular situation How best to 'package' your ideas so that the person will find them easy to understand and appealing Why, at times, you may find your partner's behaviour infuriating or inexplicable!
