  • Hybrid work

    Hi,

    I seek the advise.

I have recently checked my contract and it state's that i am required to work from office/home without specified days.
For the past year my company requested for all full time office base employees to come back to work from office for 3 days per week.

Do i have right to negotiate less days due to my contract? or i should just come as the rest of the full time office people as this is still classes as hybrid. I feel its unfair as i am actually not getting better conditions than the standard contract employees

Your contract specifically states you are "required to work from office/home" which is hybrid working.

    Are you a full-time employee?

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.

Base on the contract wording it looks like I am on the hybrid.

        The question is.
There is no specation on the amount of days that i should be working from home and office.

Recent imposition of 3 days a week by employer to all the employees including fully time office based employees to come to the office do i have any leverage here stating that if full office base employees come to the office 3 days I am hybrid I should be given specific days but less days as I don't feel beneficial if I do what other full-time office based employees

Does your company have a hybrid working policy and if so what does this state about the office/home ratio?

Had the full-time office based workers been allowed to WFH as a continuation of COVID working that had been put in place?

I am not aware on the hybrid work policy and ratio.

Yes all employees were WFH during Covid.

All office base employees were asked to come back to branches.

My team has been religious with complying to the request including myself

however I have observed that in the past year other teams employees have not been obliged to this rule and there was not reprocation enforced.

This situation is daunting as I have aver 40min drive each way and whenever I don't come to the office I need to provide justification or make up the days in later date.

Firstly I would check any hybrid working policy and see if there are "typical" ratios set out.

I would say that 3 days in the office and 2 days wfh is still hybrid working and would be in accordance with your work location being "from the Feltham office/home" as set out in your contract.

I would also say that when you accepted employment it was clear you would be required to work at the office and the drive time it would take you.

Given that all staff whose contract is to work full time from an office location are now being asked to work 3 days from the office post Covid, there may be the ability to agree some greater flexibility with your manager / HR around your hybrid working status.

                Thank you Ula,

That's what i though the case might be.

I will request flexible working hours or as you suggested have the conversation regarding some greater flexibility with my manager / HR around my hybrid working status.

I have requested flexible working hours.

The manager set the initial meeting in 3 weeks. Is this acceptable?
I have stated that reson for reducing my hours was struggling with mental health.

I have proposed new time in 2 weeks as they calenday was wide open.

                    is that a power game?

Firstly does your company have a flexible working policy, if so they should be adhering to any timescales for responding set out in that document?

If your company does not have such a policy then the ACAS guidance is only that a consultation meeting should be held to make sure that all relevant information is understood before a decision is made and that this should take place without unreasonable delay.

I would try not to read too much into it at this stage.
