  • Old debt

I have been paying old debt from around 18 years ago to a few different debt collection agencies. I have no idea who/what the original companies were as the debt has been sold so many times. I am struggling to maintain these payments. If I stop paying all of them, am I right in thinking that the current owner of the debt has to prove to me my original contract with the original creditor before I can be pursued for the money

    Hi JLS123

    Welcome to LB

Send the DCA a CCA Request, they have 12 days to provide a copy of the agreement.

If they can't the debt is 'unenforceable' until they can. 'Bare in mind' the CCA agreement must be 'compliant'.

Also 'bare in mind' that there is no existing CCJ for the debt.

    You can stop payments.
