I am with e-on and asked them to fit a smart meter . E-on have refused to as i owe them money. Bearing in mind the regulator wants everyone on a smart meter by 2025 are they allowed to do this?

From https://www.ombudsman-services.org/f...y-sector-faqs:
"Under industry rules set by energy regulator Ofgem, energy suppliers are required to ‘take all reasonable steps’ to ensure that a smart meter is installed before 30 June 2025. There is currently no requirement for suppliers to install a smart meter on request, but if you would like one you can contact your supplier to discuss availability in your area."

I would make a formal complaint to EON in writing, if they still don't and you have followed their complaints procedure, then raise a complaint with the Services Ombudsman. Make sure EON know that that is exactly what you will be doing. Make sure you get Proof of Postage.
The energy companies are like the 'wild, wild, west'.

I had a 'smart meter' installed, then several months later my new supplier told me they need to install a 'smarter meter', so the meter installed earlier wasn't that 'smart'. The energy sector is a 'cash cow' for energy companies anything goes.
Example I had Economy 7, essential different rates for electricity day / night.
The one meter, but with two readings. I changed from Economy 7 to 'standard' rates.
They wanted to charge £40 to install a meter for 'standard' rates, I know why, but surely they could convert the existing meter so it only shows 'standard' rates. It's all ridiculous.
OFGEM look after their own interests, hopeless, useless and much more.

GIven everyone's disappointment in their so called smart meter (what's the point if it cannot remove domestic drudgery and predict the future?) I return to my original question, why is the OP fighting to get one? I feel like I am fighting to AVOID getting one!
Glad to hear about the mobile signal EXC. Mine is also awful so if they ever try to "force" it on us perhaps I will escape...

Whenever it's placed anywhere near a smart meter, it lights up & the whistles & bells go off like a pinball machine.
It even picks up next door's smart meter.CAVEAT LECTOR
