So on 9th November of 2018 I moved into my property. I was told that the property was all electric which was fine with me. Of course I was under the assumption that the heating was included in the electric. My electricity provider is NPower. Fast forward to July 2019 the hot water stops working and I call the building manager and he tells me you’ll have to call E-ON as they are responsible for the hot water. So I call them and they tell me, we weren’t aware someone was living in the property and will have to charge you for your usage from November 2018 to July 2019. This shocked me as i wasn’t aware I had to be paying for this. They sent me a bill of £308. I challenged them on this and said why wasn’t I contacted by EON when I moved in to make me aware of the fact that they supply heating and will need to charge me a fee every month for my usage? They said again we weren’t aware someone was in the property. I then said well if there were no issues then I could have lived my entire tenancy in this flat without ever having paid a bill. So the situation is now they refuse to acknowledge any fault on their end to provide information and will not waive the charge. Do I have a case? Am i required to pay?

Are you saying that you have Gas and Electric, your electricity supplier is Npower and you weren't aware of the Gas at all until you had an issue with your hot water?
Do you have a gas boiler ? gas central hearing ? gas oven or hob etc ?
Have you checked the meter for the gas and given Eon the readings?

All electric there’s no gas supply in the building. The heating is also electric but it’s has it’s own meter which is owned by E-ON because they supply the hot water to the development. All electric water tank, hob etc. E-ON claim they send an engineer out once a month to check the readings. My question is which I just realised is that if they regularly send someone out to check the meter readings they would have clearly seen that it is being used.

So there's two separate electric supplies into one property ? The Eon one is solely for your property? Not shared ? And there's two circuits ? Completely separate one for hot water ? And your hot water ( not heating /cooking etc JUST hot water ) costs you about £38 a month ? This is a little strange isn't it. How much is your bill with npower each month ? *Do you have neighbours on the same development you can ask how theirs is set up ?*#staysafestayhome
