      Re: Barclays reserve

Well I'm hoping some one will be able to help. Last January I opened an Barclays account as part of a mystery shop commissioned by Barclays. I opened the account and as it was not my current account only used it three times. As I didn't use it I presummed that was the reason why I didn't recieve any statements.
On 8th November I recieved a phone call from Barclays saying that I was £223 overdrawn and I'd gone into a 'reserve'. Having clarified that they had the correct account I was told that there was a reserve on my account and that they had sent 13 letters to me to tell me. Sadly none of these letters had arrived, no statements and none since. I even enquired if they were speaking to the correct person as I didn't know what a reserve was!.
I have had two letters from them when I complained, both stating that as I was a mystery shopper then I should not have used the account and that just because I did not recieve a letter offering me the opportunity to opt out or any of the charge letters I still have to pay the charges. Head office have just rang me and said Yes - you have to pay we can't control the post and your occupation ment you should not have used the account.

I went overdrawn by £13 and the fees are £340

Am I being mad thinking this is unfair?:tinysmile_cry_t:

        Re: Hello

Have you told them now that you want to opt out of the charge letters? And have you formally written to them to put the account into dispute? If not, you need to do that straight away.
You would have to check terms of the mystery shopper, for when you opened the account, there is probably something in there to say that you shouldn't use the account, I would think. I'm not sure if this would affect your claim for charges, if at all.

          Re: Hello

Hi I have checked and there was no mention from the mystery shopping company that I could not use the account as normal. I have had my final response this morning from Barclays and they have advised the the FOS will not uphold the claim. Is that there decision or the FOS?????
