  • Prosecution For Theft

Long and short of it... we have a family member who has been stealing cash from a bank account of an elderly aunt. We have informed police but now after a family discussion we have decided not to press charges as he has agreed to repay everything in full. 7k in total. Is it possible to stop the police from prosecuting?*

It used to depend on whether they view it as being in the public interest to continue with the prosecution.

Now with the way the police and CPS are targeted to detect, prosecute and convict crimes it's unlikely they'll withdraw it given the bank statements put it in black and white, so it should be a fairly easy conviction for them.
