  • Missed payment

I lost my job just after xmas. I'm due to start work 20th of this month but dont get paid till 28th of February. I informed Advantage of this and told them I cant make this months payment as got no income at the moment. They have basically told me I should borrow money so I can make a payment to them or risk going into default. Are they allowed to ask me to borrow money to pay them? Or should I just got into default and carry on paying as from next month? Thanks

Legally yes, should they morally, probably not.

Seems like they are trying to turn the screws, no finance company is going to want to default you for one missed payment and so I'd go back to them, explain you are not able to borrow the money to pay this month as you currently have no income. Ask them would they lend to you at this moment in time? No they wouldn't so neither will anyone else.

Tell them you can't make the repayment with nothing, no matter what they threaten it is not possible and threatening putting you into default when essentially you are asking to delay a payment due to circumstances out of your control is not productive.

Ask them if you can over pay (by an affordable amount to you) from February onward to clear the missed January payment?
