  • ppi claim companies

I constantly receive texts from a ppi claim company, stating that my mortgage company have confirmed that I have a ppi claim.
after weeks of being pestered, I thought I would call my mortgage company and do a direct claim, which I did.
After that I went to the texts from the claim company and clicked on the "cancel claim" section, where a email address was given.
I sent an email cancelling there involvement.
After 5 minutes or so, I received a reply.
Saying that I would be charged for work already done.
I have now informed them to carry on with the claim.
Is it legal for them to charge for any past work?
What exactly is the work that they actually do?, because all I did was call the mortgage company and they do the actual work

Yes that is pretty much it. Normally on a PPI claim the lender would send out a form to you or go through it with you on the phone. Then they'd consider it, say yes or no to a refund, then you'd fill in a form to get the FOS to look at it.

Who is the PPI claim company ?
Did you ever actually sign a letter of authority for the claims company to contact your lender and your lender to share your data with them ?
Did you ever sign an agreement with the claims company ? Did they send you a copy of the contract/agreement ?( email maybe?)
