  • Hello everyone

Hello everyone, i am so ashamed to say this, but I was caught shoplifting in tesco yesterday, I was taken to their detention room, I gave back all the clothes I stole, my details and address were taken, the police was not involved, the manager said I will be fined, and that I should be expecting letters from them, I am so scared, I am unemployed (I have few months old baby), I apologised profusely, I don't know why I did it, it's my first time, please what should i expect and what do I do?

Firstly you won't be receiving a fine. What you will receive is an invoice from private company. There is some examples of the letter you'll receive here… https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...rs-rlp-and-dwf

The general advice is to simply ignore them.

Did Tesco ban you from shopping in the store?

Please don't let it worry you, you won't have a criminal record or anything of the sort, you were lucky this time and Tesco's didn't lose anything, don't do it again and concentrate on looking after that baby of yours xxx

Okay - that's pretty standard - there's plenty of other supermarkets about, many cheaper

Hello, please one more question to put my mind at ease, will I be charged to court if I ignore the letters?

Taken to court for what? No police then no charge. You will get an invoice from RLP, if that was who were dealing with it, but no way is it a fine as private companies cannot issue fines

Last time RLP tried court it didn't go very well - https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...h-and-the-lies

If you read some of the threads about shoplifting & civil recovery they should put your mind at ease and you'll see you certainly aren't alone in having had an off day whilst shopping xxx
