Hi I would like to know that my husband had a daughter 10 years ago with his ex girlfriend but right after she was born the ex took her and went away without informing..he tried to contact her in every possible way but couldn't get in touch but now hes married and have his own family. After 10 years yesterday he received a letter from child maintenance service that all of sudden shes asking for rights. My question is where were she for past 10 years? What can we do now? How should we deal with this situation. He never met his daughter before in past 10 years so hes not willing to pay because he even tried to chase but she didnt want to stay in touch and now shes asking for rights.
Help please with child maintenance service uk

What is the letter from Child Maintenance saying ? Is it just asking for payments ?
Has as he ever tried to obtain a child arrangements order through the courts ?
Does he know if he is on the birth certificate? and, sadly, does he know for certain he is the child's father ? He wasnt married to the mother at the time so he wouldn't be on the birth certificate without having attended the register office or giving written consent. If there is any doubt over whether he is the child's father that should be raised, it could be established through testing, and through the process he could try to obtain some kind of contact with the child going forward, if that's what he wanted.
