i've been sent a demand for £811.00 out of the blue

i have received a demand notice of £811.00 out of the blue. When i rang them they said over the phone that they been sending notices to a wrong address. They also have got the marital status wrong where do i stand ?

Who is the letter from ?
What is the background to the debt ? ( original creditor / loan / phone agreement / credit card etc? )
Did you marry after incurring / defaulting on the debt?
Is the wrong adress an entirely wrong address, or your old address?
Did the debt default or was it last paid over 6 years ago ?
