  • Is there any law for equal pay for equal value work that isn't based on gender etc.?

    Hi,

    I hope someone can help. I am searching for a law on equal pay for equal value work that is not about gender, sexual orientation, race, age, disability etc. but simply about a job role where there are teams were all members are doing precisely the same role to the same level but half earn £10k+ more. Everything I read is pointing to one of the above and so far I have found nothing in support of same sex/mixed sex, or just comparing the role like-for-like. I am actually feeling very discriminated against as there is nothing to protect/ support my situation. We are a mixed team and have men and women in both grades and for a long time have done precisely the same work.

    This has been acknowledged by our employers but they won't do anything about it and continue to pay us less.

    Have we got no rights here? Are there any solicitors who have taken on cases where it isn't the obvious discrimination and won?

    Any advice would be sincerely appreciated as starting to get seriously depressed about this.

    People & Employers are free to negotiate different pay /terms etc for the same work across all industries ... unless you are of a protected characteristic and the reason for your different pay rate is directly or indirectly because of that characteristic then there wouldn't be any discrimination or equal pay claim.

    Are there actually any differences between the groups - were the higher paid ones previously doing different work - more qualifications , experience, been employed longer, come to the company from jobs that were higher paid...etc etc
