  • Parents and Carer obligations to their child/ren

What is the role of parent when their child has finished school at 2:45pm?
You transport the child home to find the parent is not at home. Next you phone the parent to only hear that they are fair distance from their home, the child must be returned back to school or to meet the parents somewhere out of the borough or drop the child of to a person who the Transport Service Office has no information regarding that person. When you call the office the office is telling you that you must drop of all the others children home. Where you find you have five wheelchairs and one of the children has to be bottle feed through a tube, which leave to adding to extra journey as it triggers of a seizure. So if that is the case that when a parent handover their child(ren) they can travel by aeroplane and go to any destinations as they pleases. One of the parents gave their contact number but they are at work, which mean you have no other choice but to phone. When you go to pick up the child and you ask the mother for her number her response is to get hold of her you have to go through the child father to get her number.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you

Presumably you transport children with special requirements to and from school as your job ?

Does the school always finish at 2.45 ? and is the Parent not being at home at drop normal off time a regular occurrence ?

Your employer has policies of what to do in such situations ? ( ring parent etc )

I'd guess there would be a service user agreement of some kind between school / transport and parent/carer - where they may risk losing the transport service for their child if not being available / ready at drop off / pick up times.
