OK, so you don't really intend going to court, which is just as well as (IMO anyway) you would be hard put to it to win any worthwhile amount.

If you want to quote the law to them in your negotiations there are:
    1)Misrepresentation Act 1967 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1967/7
    2) Consumer Rights Act 2015 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/...ntents/enacted (Sections 11 & 19 would be appropriate for you)

Can I ask whether this particular make and model of caravan comes in different sizes? If they purported to sell you one size but actually sold you another, that's rather different from selling you an XYZ model of caravan which only comes in one size and for which the specs are easily available on the www.

Is 37ft one of the sizes that's normally made? And, come to think of it, is 35ft?

It comes in both sizes, the trader we bought it from is now saying he thinks the purchase agreement is correct and the plate on the caravan stating 35ft is incorrect, I doubt this is the case, guess we are just going to have to try & measure it, we want to sell the van & I certainly don’t want the new owners signing for something they not getting, he has suggested if it is only 35ft the re-sale price will need to be lowered, surly then the price we paid should of been lower

You need to find out from the manufacturer the key dimensions of the different models, then measure it accurately. 3 times!

I really don't believe the idea that the plate is wrong, but ....

Clearly, this is like paying for a 2 litre car but getting a 1.6. You've clearly been diddled if that's the case. It's a bit complicated if there's a plate on the van that says 35ft and you've accepted it anyway, but an expert will hopefully be along in a minute.

              Two more questions:

              1. How prominent is the plate on the van saying 35ft? A great big thing that's hard to miss, or a tiny plate at the back of a cupboard?

              2. Does the site you bought from have a price list showing different prices for the two models?
