Received a PCN ticket - for my son at the home address - I wrongly told him to ignore them - now received court papers - sent a copy of the hotel receipt showing invoice - now received a Small Claims Form N180 and offered mediation - but If you had a legitimate reason for parking in a private car park to a hotel - do you stand any chance of mediation in your favour

Just updating what happened -
Son visited friends staying at a Hotel - collected them and took them to the airport to fly home.
Parked in the Hotel car park and was early - didn't see a sign or think to register his vehicle at reception - didn't expect to be staying any longer than 5 minutes - they caught his car entering and exiting but not parked - total of some 45 minutes.
Received a PCN to parents address Registered Keepers and I wrongly told him to ignore it - Received various letters in varying degrees of demands - received a claim form from the courts and replied with a Hotel Receipt for the stay from his friends. Thought that would be last heard but now received a Notice of Proposed Allocation to the Small Claims Court with details of Mediation.
Should we decide to go down the Mediation and what should we say or not say or proceed to the court for a hearing. Do you recommend a legal representative. Would like to deal with this the best way not out to make a point merely to be treated fairly and not bullied into something.
Thanks for reading.

Did we do wrong ? Entering a defence ? We just sent a copy of the receipt for the hotel invoice ?
The Hotel sign states as of yesterday 20.05.18
Parking conditions
All visitors/guest must register for a Parking Permit From reception
These terms and conditions apply at all times
If you breach you are required to £100

Have you still got the original Notice to Keeper?
You could plead that the unlit signs were not visible becaue of the early hour. How many hours before sunrise? Can you get a picture of the area taken without flash at the same time before sunrise to show how visible (not) the signs were

Hello and thank you for the replies - still looking for original form - it was in between 8am to 9am on 21.7.17 - so it might of been a bit too light -
my son went on Sunday to see the signs and he said there are lots more signs and that the reception has two he doesn't remember seeing before.
Can't prove they weren't there last year. We have the hotel receipt and the flight details for his friends - is this a good enough reason to go straight to the hearing or try mediation..
Thank you
