    Re: Automerged DoublePosting

pmsl....I'm in a quandry about team members, cause I know I am one of the worst offenders of writing a post, thinking of something two mins after posting and just whacking another post on rather than editing.

But there we are lol, can't fix the ENTIRE forum just to suit me and my foibles.

I do that as well Ame. And was wondering what was going on with this double posting automerge thingy.

            Really?

Still very very irritating and unnecessary.

            Sorry.

              Re: Automerged DoublePosting

I know Nibbler and understand what you are saying, but it does work for the majority of users without any problem. Any quibbles on the site and whatnot can go in this forum, site issues, or just pm Tools or me about it. We do listen xx

At the moment Automerge is set to merge adjacent posts made within 20 minutes of one another. This was reduced from an hour a few weeks after we started using the feature.

Additionally users have 3 days during which they can edit their own posts. This has also been increased from 1 day which it was set to originally. Any edits required after that time can be pm'd to Team.

All these types of measures are in place to make the forum work better for everyone

                Re: Automerged DoublePosting

                Thanks.

Not a major gripe, but just something I do find annoying. And as said, not at all necessary.

If I found it that annoying, then I would have posted a thread here (or PM'd) about it rather than just commenting/responding on another thread.

20 mins then. That is useful to know.

There you go Nibbler thats enough time to make a cuppa and visit the loo before you make another post, look on it as a way of taking a break.

                      Re: Automerged DoublePosting

Due to un-popular demand I've reduced the automerge doubleposts to 5 mins from 20 mins.

This means if you post on same thread within 5 mins of your last post on same thread, and no one had posted inbetween, your posts will be merged. Longer than 5 mins and they will remain seperate posts.

Yep copying from Word or Emails, its best to copy and paste the text into wordpad or notepad which unformats it and leaves all the font tags etc behind, then copy and paste from wordpad or notepad to here.

                            Thank you.

That is a nice compromise to reach.

On record, I dislike the automerge feature completely. It has no real merit, and is just an unnecessary annoyance. But just my opinion, so I repeat my thanks to the site team.

Doesn't appear to do that very well, and is certainly not worth the annoyance.

Sorry. You are not going to convince me.

                                Thanks anyway.
