Re: Happy St Georges Day
- Despite the fact that St. George has been the patron saint of England since the 14th century, only one in five people know that St. George’s Day falls on April 23rd.
- More than a quarter of people living in England do not even know who their patron saint is!
- Shakespeare was born on April 23rd, 1564 and he died on the same day in 1616.

Boss gives entire workforce St George's Day off
Once Again Boss Tells his Entire Workforce to Take the Day Off and Celebrate St. George's Day
Staff could not believe their luck again when Tim Allard, chairman of Ashford based cavity insulation specialists Lion Insulation Ltd told them they could all take the day off to celebrate St. Georges Day. Having decided last year to probably be the UK's first employers to take this step, he's done it again.
The truth of the matter however is that the businessman from Folkestone is so passionate that England should celebrate its very own National Day on 23rd April and have it become an official Bank Holiday that to mark this special day each year he has decided to close the business and tells everybody to go off and enjoy themselves - Nice work if you can get it!
Tim Allard's main objectives for doing so are primarily to encourage like-minded businessmen to firmly demonstrate that England's national day of heritage should, for once and for all be finally recognised as a day to respect and celebrate our very own national saint.
Let's face it, so many other countries around the world have set aside a special day to celebrate and respect their patron saint, for some unknown reasoning England's day has sadly not enjoyed the same recognition. Whilst the Scot's celebrate Burns night and the Irish enjoy their national public holiday on St. Patrick's Day, it's obvious that the English have received a pretty raw deal. However, all of this could well change thanks to the stalwart efforts of company bosses like Tim Allard.
Tim Allard firmly believes that St George Day offers a unique focal point needed to retain English identity adding, "It also makes a fair degree of business sense to give staff the day off and I know this is point that hasn't gone unnoticed by other businessmen. I would urge them to take the plunge, make a real stand and be proud of this wonderful country."
In 2006 a Private Members Bill was tabled in Parliament seeking legislation to ensure that everyone in England is given an annual holiday on April 23rd. Although there was not enough parliamentary time for it to become law, the Bill received enormous support from members of all political parties and from people across the country.
Supervisor Andy Payne stated that his boss's generous decision last year had created quite a buzz amongst the workforce. "After Tim's decision last year it will be interesting to see if other companies have also decided to have the day of this year" he said.
One thing's for sure by acting in such a saintly manner Tim Allard has certainly proved that he's a boss in a million.

Re: Happy St Georges Day
It wasn't a particularly happy day for the dragon though, was it?
Mind you, I don't know why old George bothered. He slays the dragon that was dining on Libyan kids, and how do they repay that kindness????
Aye, they shoot a policewoman, blow an aircraft out of the sky, decimating Lockerbie in the process, and send tons of weaponry to the IRA so they can carry on the carnage.
Ungrateful sods, ain't they?
