arghh you just beat me - iwas too busy reading the history - found this quite amusing

The only action the castle ever saw was when it was ‘captured’ from its garrison of just seven men by two Jacobites, who then flew their flag for a few hours before they were eventually thrown out.

Lindisfarne, or Holy Island, a tidal island off the coast of Northumberland, became a major centre of Christianity when the Priory was built by St. Aidan in 635 A.D. The castle was completed in 1550 as a defence against Scottish and French invasion. It was captured briefly in 1715 by Jacobite forces.

In a way it was, until Henry VIII got wind of the fact that there was a Priory on the Island - when it was demolished and the building I have pictured was built from the rubble.
