      Your only vice Jules????? :tinysmile_twink_t2:

I am concerned about the weight thing to be honest. Thankfully I lost one and a half stone recently, so if I put on a little it won't matter so much.
A good thing about the gum is my mouth is busy!!! But I am wanting to eat more biscuits - trying to control that though.
Spent loads on clothes lately, thrown away all the bigger sized ones so better not put on too much.

Re: I Am A Non Smoker!!!!!!

Oh Sally well done hun, keep going you can do it. The Old Git and myself gave it up 4 years ago on fathers day, and to be honest it wasn't that hard for me personally. I suppose I'd just got to that stage that I really hated paying nearly a fiver for a packet of cigs each a day. Just worked it out at say £10 a day for us comes to:

        £10 x 365 days = £3,650 x 4 years = £14,600.00

Now thats what I call an incentive, and do I wish now that we'd put £10 a day in a Jar.

The downside though I find is that I have put on a load of weight and to be honest at 5' 2" its not the greatest look. Also I can't stand the smell of smoke now and really hate to be anywhere near smoke. Which can be awkward when you have friends or family who still do smoke.

            An update ........
I have to say that this has been easier than I thought, but when the cravings come they are very powerful, and it is very tempting to have 'just one'!!!! But have learnt that doesn't work from the last time I stopped.
Also, was told by someone close to me that I smell much nicer now, which I keep in mind when a smoking thought happens.
And I also think about Crete. OH has said he will match whatever I save towards the holiday - think he realised I may not be taking him lol.
Anyway, not really missing it even when I drive! But I am not being too complacent, I know addiction can be sneaky and lie in wait for a weak moment.
The worst part is that quite a lot of the general public smell!! Smoking hides that, but now I can smell all the B.O and stale smoke (did I really smell like that?)

Re: I Am A Non Smoker!!!!!!

Well done Sally. I gave up a few years ago, really easy, but sadly fell off the wagon after 9 months, "just one" turned into a packet a day. Have been trying to cut down recently, not just the health thing, but the money as well. I'm the only smoker in our house, also cos I'm on my own at work most of the timeI tend to ignore the smoking ban (naughty, I know). But I am going to make a determined effort now. I have 5 cigs left in my packet so am going to try not to buy any more when they've gone. I'm not supposed to smoke in the car, hubby moans about it, but that's the killer for me, always light up when I drive.

So I'm going to make the effort now. Just lit up, so only 4 left in the packet now.....

It is a fact, that if you can go 5 minutes without a cigerette, then you can go the rest of your life without one.

The craving lasts for a maximum of 5 minutes, (scientific fact ;-)

The longer you go without, the shorter the craving lasts for.

                Keep up the good work!

Well two weeks as a non smoker!!!!
Gained about 4lbs but trying hard not to get in to 'eat now deal with it later' thing.
The cravings do pass, but at the time they feel so powerful.
I constantly feel like I put one out about 20 mins ago - not quite due for a cigarette but almost.
Thinking about Crete and being told I smell nicer helps a lot, and I hold on to that when the cravings sweep me up!!
                  How are you doing Wendy?
                  Thanks for the support,
                  Sally xx

Well done Sal, if you keep thinking about Crete you won't go wrong. In fact why not stick a lovely picture somewhere and go and have a sneak peak when you feel the fag urge coming on.

Re: I Am A Non Smoker!!!!!!

When a tobacco user stops without using any form of nicotine replacement their blood becomes nicotine free within 72 hours. Also at about the 72 hour mark the intensity of withdrawal reaches its peak. On average, day three brings the quitter 6.1 "craves" and it is during these extremely crucial hours of intense withdrawal that most quitters relapse. By day five the average number of "craves" has dropped to about 3 per day and by day ten it has fallen to an average of just 1.4. Although true physical nicotine withdrawal is nearing its end, psychological withdrawal (habit conditioning) continues and will be fairly gradual in its decline, yet far less intense and to a large degree manageable. Although it often occurs earlier, usually between day 60 and 90, psychological withdrawal will have diminished to the point that the quitter will be experiencing at least some days that are totally free of anxiety or "craves." ("Coping in Real Time", O'Connell, 1998 Research in Nursing & Health, 21 at 487-497)

At two weeks, you should not be experiencing any true physical nicotine withdrawal symptoms any more and the rest is up to you - considering what you have already managed to give up and for over 12 years, this bit is going to be a doddle - well done Sally!

I am chewing Nicotinell so the withdrawal thing isn't quite the same Claude, but the cravings - which must be in my mind - are strong. Will keep with the gum for a few months.
Because I was a heavy smoker I am chewing the 4mg, but as I am greedy and keep overdosing on them have also got the 2mg. I now use the 4mg in the morning and 2mg during the day.
Nicotine is a powerful addiction and at least as hard to give up as the other stuff, and because it is so easy to get hold of (the end of the road) it is easy to relapse!
But I won't - I am a non smoker, going to Crete and smelling good!!
I like the picture idea Di and will put some up about the place.
As for the putting on weight, I have stocked up on cup-a-soups to stave off the 'must eat' feeling.
Thanks for your support, it means a lot. You are all so lovely

Well done again Sally. I'm not doing so well I'm afraid, but have cut down to less than half my usual intake, and am putting a couple of quid a day in a jar on my desk, which is mounting up nicely now. I haven't given up completely but am determined to. Am keeping myself busy at work so not thinking about going outside for a ciggie, just getting my head down and getting on with stuff. In fact I'm up to date with everything at work now! Thats why I haven't been on her much ove the last few days lol. So I'm only a patial success. or a partial failure...
