Re: A little more forward thinking

I know a woman (age of 57) who's gone back to college to study childcare in the hopes of getting new qualifications, and maybe a job. Her 'adviser' ridiculed her plans, saying she was too old for college, and sent her on a work programme course to improve her basic skills. The 'teacher' built up this womans self esteem and got her to apply to the college.

And similar when you hear "Go get a job in McD's"

Find it insulting to those working there from managers right down to those that serve at the counters :tinysmile_hmm_t2:

      Oh yes...

I applied once and didn't get the job so that's proof they don't take any and anybody!

I got told that from an (ex) friend when I told them that my boys were home educated
"well at least they'll get a job in Mc D's when they're older"

and this from someone who didn't pass a single GCSE (let alone anything else) and is now sat on the 'dreaded dole' because they were sacked for turning up to work drunk!!

Mind you ... to get a job behind a desk at the jobcentre now you need to have a degree! It doesn't actually matter what the degree is in ... just that you have one

Ahh I tried to get a job at the job centre too, didn't get an interview ( again).

Did lots of reading up on the interview process before applying though, looks extremely intense. Then you look at the people who you were trying to discuss your options with, and thinking how on earth did you get through that interview. Then I gave up signing on lol.

I quite often go in with a friend of mine when they have to sign on - and tell the 'advisor' how to do their job properly (I know their rulebook better than they do :lol

Re: A little more forward thinking

ha lol, good for you. I went in a few weeks back with the free school dinners form, that was a palava.... if you don't fit precisely into a given box they have no idea what to do with you.

Thinking on it, I went for a job cleaning rooms at a hotel, I did actually get the job but it was a zero hours contract which didn't fit in with life with kids whatsoever... but the interview was like I was interviewing for MI6 - full of psychometric baloney questions. Hmmm, I'm obviously psychometricly suited to cleaning.... don't think Tools would agree with that.

Been tonight to Middle daughter's GCSE options - they are trying to force the EBAC on her - she's not doing it, it'll probably be defunct by the time comes for college anyway, and she wants to get into theatre design anyway. So potential arguments with school coming up, which is daft but we'll win. I wonder if there are any stats on home schooled vs school attended kids getting into Uni ?

All depends what their GCSE's/ A-Levels are and also the extra curricular activities that they do.(sports stuff/charitable stuff is a very good thing btw....learnt a few things from the leading university I work for )
