        Re: Ban "Lads Mags"?

Personally I quite admire ******, the woman has made a fortune of getting her bazooka's out and playing out her life in public, she's a very good businesswoman, she's sold millions of books, none of which she has written herself, she gives the idea to a ghost writer and sticks her name on the publications, and again with her underwear range, perfume, jewellery and even pet products.
If anyone doesn't like her and what she does/sells then you don't have to look at her/read about her or indeed what programmes with her on it.
Its all about freedom of choice.
Now smoking is a different animal entirely, I choose not to smoke, yet I am forced to inhale it when walking along the road, or entering a building where people are puffing away outside, that is not freedom, I am forced into it and therefore I feel there is discrimination against the non smoker.
By the way those two statements above are not specific to the subject matter ie ******/smoking, they are just examples and you can change the subject to suit yourselves.

And I'm a smoker and I object to having to stand in the cold/heat because I'm treated like a second class citizen.
I remember the adverts for cigarettes when I was younger and I feel I was co-erced into taking up what would become a habit,
Why shouldn't I be allowed to remain in my seat in a restaurant and enjoy my cigarettes,,after all,I might be the only one smoking in there so it wouldn't be too bad would it? You can all wash your clothes to get the stench of smoke out,,what's the big deal?
And when I'm in hospital,,why can't I have my fags by my bed? you all expect a sick person to drag themselves down to the car park just because you are all so selfish and expect to have 'clean air'...honestly??

True, although Freedom cuts both ways. With Freedom comes responsibility.

When someone like that is allowed to parade their squalid lifestyle in this way, they become a role model. Millions of impressionable young people see ... and copy.

With a creature like ****** as a role model, is it any wonder that so many young people are the way they are today?

                          .

I absolutely agree with you on that, but that's where the argument can be twisted, some may say that its people like her who are bad role models, my personal view is that if children are brought up properly by their parents then the children will see ****** and the rest for what they really are.

I know it's a joke, Inca, but I kind of agree with you - especially about hospitals. I haven't smoked for years, but I can still remember the ghastly (specially designed to be revolting and never cleaned with no windows or ventilation) smoking rooms and the huddle of walking wounded with drips and bags outside in the cold - it's all such a stress it does seem cruel to deny a stress buster.

Also find the most interesting group at parties tends to be the naughty one, outside, smoking, so still tend to join them

Not true. There is an alternative. Having smoked for years, I have, for the last year, switched to electronic cigarettes. I still get my nicotine (not provably hazardous to me!) and you get nothing - there are no other "ingredients" to the cigarette, and the "smoke" is vapourised natural glycerine (sugar!). From the minute I got mine I have never, not once, touched a real cigarette.

It is perhaps appertain to the thread that the government would like to limit my ability to purchase these from 2016 by making them "medicines" and licensing them, mainly, it would appear, due to a lobby from the pharmaceutical companies who produce anti-smoking products (containing what - oh yes, nicotine!) whose profits are being damaged by these products, and the anti-smoking groups who say it is wrong to even look like you are smoking when you aren't!. I am thinking of decanting all my whisky into lucozade bottles to make it look like I am not drinking too!
