I accept it has softened in many quarters and i suspect that some incidents that involve my family and the Catholic Church have given me a even more negative view

It doesn't matter if your Catholic, C of E or whatever, it all comes down to education and being taught that to keep popping out children that you cannot afford is plain wrong, and its even more wrong to expect others to pay to keep them. The only way to encourage this would be to give tax breaks to people for not having them or not having more than they can afford, plus we need to phase out the benefits as well, its been done in America and amazingly the birth rate has miraculously dropped.

The falling birth rate in the US may be true but even after its fall and our increase there is still a significantly lower birth rate in the UK.

I seriously doubt that any politician would have enough courage to do that.

Whilst she gained notoriety as being the person who "stole" the 1/3 pint milk ration to children, she didn't dare to touch what was then called Family Allowance. She didn't even reverse Labour's extension of Family Allowance to the first child - previously, it was only payable if the mother had two or more children.

For taking the milk off us I will be eternally grateful. In the winter you needed an ice axe to get in, in the summer it was warm and foul. To this day I have never enjoyed milk as a drink

                      Lovely, wasn't it?

Mind you, I knew the local farm whence our milk came.
