I do wish you'd not quoted that...

I now have an unpleasant mental image of Dennis Thatcher sodomising his wife as she was bent over the Despatch Box.

A far better piece of music to commemorate her legacy would surely be "Lascia ch'io pianga" from Rinaldo:

            Lascia ch'io pianga
            mia cruda sorte,
            e che sospiri la libertà.
            Il duolo infranga queste ritorte
de' miei martiri sol per pietà.

Those policies, which caused recession for the country and misery for many, hardly seem to have been wise.

According to the wikipedia article, the curry major and a hurd helped to persuade the cabinet to back the plan.....

                      Oh, yes ... "collective responsibility".

It was at the end of the Thatcher era and the beginning of the Major Era. Thatcher was PM when the decision was made but was not leader for that much longer thereafter....

No - John Major-Ball was still the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

He was ideally suited to that role, having once applied for a job as a bus conductor.

                            Exactly,

Yet she could still harangue Labour about economic prudence?

You mean these ones? The same Labour Party that lost an 18 point lead in the 1992 election and Mrs Thatcher was even up against them but John Major was.
