    By whom was that believed?

    Vide Argyria at Wikipedia - link - and then you might understand that the skin changes colour, not the blood and also that ingestion of silver from cutlery would be far too slight to cause the changes.

    (I occasionally have to correct the question setters at QI, too.)

      It was one theory held back in the day, I never said it was true
      I've heard about colloidal silver turning the skin a bluish gray

        It's actually from the appearance of blue veins near the surface of untanned skin that was as pale as alabaster.

          *UPDATE*
          The stubborn old guy died over a year ago and new neighbors moved in and had the trees removed, our next door neighbor however refused to have hers trimmed saying birds are nesting so it'll have to wait til Autumn.
          6 Months ago after a storm her two trees blue down crushing her new shed and her green house, don't you just calmer.
