  • Vehicle MOT

I was thinking to myself earlier (can be a dangerous activity if not controlled) the MOT is due soon on the car and I asked myself a question.

    What is an MOT for?

To show that a car is road worthy I hear you say........ well no it don't, well at the time of the test it does but once you drive it off the garage forecourt it means nothing.
It even states on the MOT, this certificate does not prove the road worthiness of the vehicle, or words to that effect.

So you can't use it to prove the car is road worthy, you can't use it as a legal document in anyway what-so-ever, so what can you use it for??????

errrrr nothing. It's a useless bit of paper that is earning VOSA millions of squid a year.

Unless someone knows any different :rollelf:

see, this is what happens when you ask yourself seemingly simple questions, mmmmmmmmmmmmm...................maybe I need to see someone

I agree with what you are saying, but I guess if anything if you get a producer then at least you can prove that you do have the car given a throrough going over every 12 months.

If we didn't have them then I dread to think of just what would be being driven on the roads, and no MOT generally means no insurance and or tax either.

If you get stopped for am apparent fault on your vehicle and the PNC check comes back as the car being MOTed, there is a section on the HORT1 (producer) which can be filled in and this gives you a time limit to get the fault rectified and checked by an MOT station, then you have to take it to the Police Station to verify that you have had the fault checked.

I will post up a HORT1 if you want, to see the section, or are that good a driver you have never received one..lol

          Re: Vehicle MOT

I understand that a vehicle 'requires' a valid test certification before being allowed to be used on the roads.
My thought was, a test certificate does not prove a vehicle is in satisfactory condition to be used on our roads.
If an MOT cert does not prove the condition of a vehicle, how can we be penalised for not have an MOT that has no reflection on the vehicle itself?

Yes it would show that the owner does at least have the vehicle looked at every 12 months but as stated on the MOT certificate itself 'it does not prove the vehicle is in road worthy condition'.

I just cant get my head round the reasoning for having an MOT? and why we are penalised for not having a valid MOT? which proves nothing :rollelf:

Its basically a yearly check up for your car.

If we didnt have this there would be even more death traps on the road.

Anyway I will stop before I go off on one about the justice system and traffic offences.

Hey Peek, I must be a really good driver as I have never exceeded the posted limit, jumped a red light or anything else norty, never had a producer, infact the only time my licence sees the light of day is for ID in the bank!

Mmmm. wonder if this has something to do with the fact I am on big red Ls and have only been out a few times lol

At the time your car is in the Mot station.and the tester has done all the requirements your car has passed or failed, the test is designed to see if your car is roadworthy at that time, if it passes and after the test a bulb goes out or you hit a curb and then a tyre is faulty, then you are responceable to correct the fault. At the time of the MOT the tester would have failed the aforementioned fault.
