      Re: new cats?

Oops - you keep yours in a room and let the strangers roam??? Sorry - have had cats but not a cat person, more a dog person. But are you insane???!! Dog or cat doesn't matter - they are both territorial. Free range goes to the ones that "own it" - the others earn their scratches or stares. You cannot introduce strangers - they have to do that themselves and show the proper respect - or be willing to scrap for it.

        Re: new cats?

We have two gorgeous cats, one is a bit of a freak who does not entertain human contact, until we go to bed at night and she is lying waiting on us. We have a large ginger Tom who thinks he is a dog. They're both roughly 5 years old.

A year past July, we re-homed our adorable and extremely mental springer spaniel when she was 11 months old.

Our cats disappeared for weeks. They slowly started coming back for a feed but would disappear again, and were often found asleep in my shed roof, above 7 ferrets.

After a while things started settling down and they would come home more frequently. Now they're more than back to normal, and it's a complete role reversal. They come around the house wherever the dog is, and the hiss and growl until the dog moves off. They can now be found curled up asleep within feet of each other on the sofa, but if our dog makes eye contact with the wee freaky one, the poor mutt gets a swipe on the nose. She has a couple of well defined scars on her beak now.

As others have said, just let them deal with things themselves, and they will settle things out their own way.

A bit like when the kids are fighting.

            UPDATE
We now let all three roam the house freely lots of hissing but NO fighting, our cat seems to want to mother them brings them toys and watches over them >they are still nervous but seem to accept the situation ours will not them anywhere near my wife as its her place on wifes lap, if i make a fuss of them shebites me not hard just telling me off,Looks like it will all work out biggest problem is they all poo a lot im forever changing their trays its actually fun watching them all knowing who is boss but looks like loving them in the night 3am she likes to take pressies to their room and leaves them outside door problem is she spends a while telling them very loudly

You see my Avatar wales,,,that's my Millie,,Millie is now 9..we bought a massive climbing/scratching gymkhana effort for Patch as he doesn't go out. The stupid idiotic Millie, who thinks she is a kitten, has taken up residence in the top storey and now and again looks out at us,upside down. Millie is not 'all there' msl:

                  Re: new cats?

                  Awwww that's good news Wales.
My Winston got into a scrap with a female cat and came gloriously 2nd,,she gave him a right good hiding (we think she may have been a feeding Queen)..he got a dent in his head and lumps of fur pulled out,he spent 48hours on the sofa feeling very sorry for himself.
None of my cats are really going out at the moment, they go out,do their ablutions (except Inca, she uses the litter box cos she thinks she is above crapping outside)..and come straight back in.
We have new carpets down and Inca is so funny,,she acts like her feet are made of velcro and is hopping everywhere.
Patch is Patch.......the attached photo says it all lol

                      Re: new cats?

                      UPDATE.
Been a year now and its become permanent there here to stay, all 3 have learned to live together and with us.
We have 3 cats all with different personalities and habits although all 3 can do smelly poos !

With 2 females the big boy knows his pale he lets them eat first a perfect gentleman with no a vicious bone in his body .Our cat shows both of them whose boss and they know it.
Despite initial worries they after a while soon realised they had to share never was any real fighting just took a good while for the 2 newies to get used to us. All in all a good ending and thanks for all of you who gave advice in the past.
