  • For all you Cat Lovers

As I know there are a lot of Cat Lovers on L/B so here's a story for you all.

    Sparkie.

The story of a cat who visits his master's tomb and brings him little presents on an almost daily basis a year after the man's death has moved the inhabitants of a village in central Italy.
"He brings little twigs, leaves, toothpicks, plastic cups. A bit of everything really," Renzo Iozzelli's widow Ada told AFP on Friday from Montagnana, a mountain village near Florence.
"Sometimes he comes with me and sometimes he goes on his own. The whole town knows about him now!"
Toldo the cat -- a grey-and-white three-year-old tomcat -- followed Iozzelli's funeral procession last year and has continued going to the cemetery ever since, a habit usually ascribed to dogs.
"He loved my husband. It was something else! Now it's just me, my daughter and my son-in-law and he's very affectionate with us too," she said.
Ada said the journey to and from the cemetery each day had tired Toldo out in the cold winter weather.
"He's not going out so much these days. He's caught a bit of bronchitis so he's sleeping next to me."

Awwwwww Sparkie thats an awesome story. Cats can get very attached to their owners. I know my cats missed me terribly when I was recently in hospital. They were very sad and were not naughty once whilst I was away. As soon as I returned, the little minxes started their naughty behaviour again. My daughter said they were so quiet whilst I was away.

As you MAY have guessed msl: I am a huge cat lover,,my avatar is my Patch,he is 3 and last year had a serious accident (he headbutted a moving car!),he has lost the sight in one eye and broke his jaw.He was seriously ill for weeks but the care of a good vet has given him back to us,he is a very affectionate lad. Millie,my 8 year old grey tabby girl doesn't know she isn't a kitten any more,,she gets stroppy if I go out.Winston and Inca are my 2 year old black twins,,as thick as plank of wood.Winston thinks he is my baby,,he is always cuddled up to me,and sulks if I'm not around.Inca is a snob,,has to have HER food in HER bowl whilst the others just charge up to the nearest bowl. All my cats pine when one of us is away, never puts them off their food though.

As you say Sparkie, an opinion. I'll will however tell you what is sick, it's me having to remove other peoples pets pooh from my garden. If you want a pet, you look after it and don't expect others who don't share your love of your animal to clear up their mess for you. Dog owners are required to clean up after their animal. Live stock farmers are required to control their stock. You cat owners seem to believe it's every one elses responsibility. Cat's never mess on their own turf. We don't, and never will, own a dirty cat. We do however, have to clean up after other irresponsible owners pets.

As to being funny; the attachment was actually forwarded to me by a cat owner a couple of years ago. All in the eye of the beholder.

I did not think that picture was funny either.

Also, how do you stop cats from jumping into another garden and doing their poops how can you jump over the fence to clean up their mess. There are also foxes these days which come into gardens - cant stop them also, also birds fly over the gardens doing their poops - you cannot stop that either.

How many times do you see dogs going for walks with their owners - doing their poops and owners not taking it away..... sorry it is a fact of life.

I'm not aware of any pet foxes or any pet wild birds. As you point out we can't stop them, they're wild after all. I find it strange that cat owners believe the rest of us should have to accept your animals mess. Perhaps we non cat owners should just shovel it up and throw it all back into your gardens. You can then fight over who owns which pile of pooh. Would you like me to throw my childrens mess into your garden? I think not.

Any pet owner makes the decision to take on the responisbilty of owning a pet. Said pet is YOUR responibilty, don't expect others to share it's ownership; that extends to its' mess also.

And by the way. Should any of my young children contract an illness from your animals excrement, will you accept liabilty? Or, if whilst playing they roll in the mess, will you accpet the cleaning bill?

Thank you for that Inca......as I have said I neither dislike cats or like them.............and I am not a religious person in any way ............but a cat is a creature of this planet and a descendant of an animal that was here a long time before us humans.............so in truth who has the most right to live on this god forsaken planet us or an animal?.........just more of an old gits ramblings. I think its "even steven"
If the story had been about a rabbit I would have still posted it.

Well,,,honestly,,the title says it all Sparks 'For all you Cat lovers'..You take time to start a thread and a hostile attitude ensues. I don't like birds,,actually,,I'm terrified of them, but I wouldn't criticise others who do like them and keep them as pets....Cats have the freedom of the land,,same as wild animals, and there are preventions to them pooping in your garden,,cats hate citrus,,plonk some lemon pellets (readily available in all fine petshops near you NOW) in your garden.

Re: For all you Cat Lovers

Since cats can climb trees, jump fences etc, I do not see how I could climb into someones garden to clean up after them. Cat are independent and we also have a number of visiting cats into our garden - so who knows which cat did what tbvh. I would not like to cast asterstions. I know for a fact where our cats do theres, I have a place in the garden when they go, so doubt that they use neighbours gardens.

I just think if you do not like cats you can buy something from the pets shop that gives a smell to cats that they do not like and they will avoid your garden like the plaque.

You know when all the fireworks went off the other on new years eve, the neighbors whose gardens adjoin our property garden let their fireworks off at the back of their garden but it was in fact nearest to our house the bangs were so loud and the amount of fireworks found in our garden was ginormous. I think it a little pathetic that the neighbors did not check if we were going to be in the garden at that time as we would have been hit for sure with falling fireworks and we could have had a very bad injury. One of our cats was so scared she was petrified as the bangs were right outside our window.

Rob made a 'dirt box' outside for my cats,,and it's worked really well. The cats use it,we go out at night and chuck the poo down the main drain(open the manhole) .Patch has a litter tray indoors,,same routine. Trust me,if I ever caught any one doing anything to harm my pets there would be Armageddon.

What happened to freedom of speech Inca? And thanks to all for volunteering my garden for use as your animals toilet. Also thanks for spending my hard earned on products to stop your domestic pets coming into our garden.

For what it's worth; I run my own carpet cleaning business. I see on a regular basis the mess left behind by tenants and their cats. Whilst there are bad landlords about there are also very bad, very dirty tenants around too. Called in by a letting agent a couple of weeks ago to "see what you can do" in a recently vacated house I didn't even go past the front door. The lady who couldn't even pay her rent "owned" four cats. I could see the fleas jumping in the carpet from the front door, never mind walking around the house. So, these precious pets and their owner wrecked a property, cost the landlord a four figure sum to replace the carpets and is now messing up someone elses house.

Bluebottle (you may recall the name) being an ex copper could, no doubt, vouch for the dirty mess encountered in some peoples homes caused by cats. You want me to "leave it at that"? No problem, but don't expect everyone to love your pets. Perhaps I may have made you more aware (but i doubt it) that others hate your cats even more than you (profess to) love them.

I know there are people who profess to love cats yet keep them cooped up in a house, pooing where they can and riddled with fleas,,which believe or not,are extremely painful to cats.My Inca gets dermatitis and one hint of a flea sends her into a frenzy. Those people that do that are guilty of animal abuse and I would happily throw the book at them.I,,like most people,am a responsible owner,my cats have all been spayed so I don't have reems of kittens to rehome,my cats are fed, watered,de fleaed, vet checked, chipped etc.It isn't the cats fault the damages get done,,it's irresponsible owners,,a cat will do what comes naturally to it ,it's down to the human to make sure it's done in the right place.
