I don't think Charles was in that segment

You were right about that, DT !!!

He had a bit of a challenge in trying to upstage the 2008 Beijing extravaganza. I applaud his decision to take the less-trod path, and go for that good old British trait - understatement. I suspect that there will be a helluva lot of our fellow global citizens wondering what the feckinell all that was about. I guess the music will be pretty universal, but the 'Britishness' of some of the stuff will leave many gobs wide open and silent, I'm sure. Mine was, on occasion.

All we have left to sell is our green and pleasant turf, and maybe we'll even be rolling it all up and flogging it to Qatar for race-courses, soon. So, I guess Danny made a good sales pitch for that. What I didn't see coming was the clever subliminal theme of those copper 'kettles' throughout the athletes' march. Other touches, like the inclusion of the faces of those who wanted to compete but were not selected, added to the feeling I got that we were each individuals - but that we were all members of 'Team Earth,' whether we liked it or not.

The 'Cauldron' was wonderfully replaced by a graphic representation of just how a thousand small flames can unite to form a common desire, whilst retaining their individual 'flairs.' It's that individuality that we must NOT lose - and that CHOICE as to whether we contribute our little flames toward a common good - or not.

Well a touch of genius and a touch of madness and we all know there is a fine line between the two.
I was very impressed especially with the rings and then the lighting of the cauldron.
I would imagine a tad confusing for some nations, but it was very British and am quite sure there were some hidden meanings to some of it especially the NHS theme.
On the whole a well done from me, I hope the medals come in thick and fast now.
I also hope Boris managed a hair do and a decent shirt.

                          Fantasticly isanely British!
As a Londoner who did everything in her power to get away from London, and managed it, I felt a sense of Hometown pride as I watched it, a sense of affection for the old place, and yes.. there were a few dozen tears, especially for poor Mohammad Ali.
I can't deal with men crying, and the memory of Chris Hoy's face as he lead Team GB.. I'm welling up again.

If we only do one thing well in this country, its pomp and ceremony!
