Shame that two horses Syncrinised and xxxPete were sadly put to sleep following their injuries today.

It was an omen before the race when Syncrinised topped his rider and ran loose that he should not have taken part in this Grand National.

I am sure a lot of people lost a lotta money today on that horse and the bookies made a fortune as per unsual.

One of the jockeys has a suspected broken leg. Am not quite sure which one yet.


There is a lot of criticism of the owners of Synchronised to have run the horse after that initial start. Now the horse is dead.

A real shame about the two killed - that's five horses in exactly one month, and a staggering 33 horses at Aintree since 2000 over the three day Grand National Period.

Is this really fun sport or is it cruelty?

Thoughts obviously go to the jockey in the enforced coma with a brain bleed, with kindest thoughts to his family and best wishes for a full recovery.

Hi

Anyone taking bet that this will be the last of these in its current form.
There has been a lot of critisism anout the ethics of this race over the last few months, in my opinion a lot more than usual.

Now two more beautiful animals put down, despite the promises that this was a new improved and more horse friendly course.

Personally it cant come soon enough, just my opinion.

Hopefully they WILL change it and make it safer for the poor animals.... and their jockeys!

This year they did as much as they could, they changed the qualification, ages of horses, and even levelled out some fences and lowered beechers brook.

Am not sure what else they could have done.

Obviously not enough.

Perhaps it is time for a complete re-think about the whole event.

I guess like most dangerous sports us human beings do, there are bound to be casualties, and the aim, if it is to continue, is to minimise those while maintaining the excitement.

I love watching Formula 1 motor racing. I enjoy actively doing rock climbing, snow and ice climbing, kayaking and used to do a bit of parachuting.

I guess the big difference is that with the sports I've mentioned, while dangerous, you know the risks and only you is killed; with horse racing, or any sport involving animals, there's always the danger that an innocent beast is killed.

Absolutely nonsense. Do you know that a horse called Foxhunt died in Meydan in Dubai a few weeks ago during a race. There was no fences whatsoever and it was on turf.

Today in Italy a player died on the field of play from a heart attack, should we rethink the safety of football players because they have to run about a bit?

I think like everything else in life it is all about what is acceptable, i personally do not think it is acceptable that two horses shoud die for the sake of one race.
