Five letter word game

Here's a good word game that I've played on another forum. You look at the word in the previous post, take a letter out and add another. You can change the order of the letters, but you still have to take one out and add one. I'll do the first two to give you the idea (NO REPEATING OF WORDS):

First word is.........START

2nd word is.........STATE
