We're in a smalll village near Tonyrefail (20 mins from Pontypridd). A lovely traditional community where everyone looks after each other.

I think to hear Welsh you need to go to West Wales or North Wales - you tend to only learn it in South Wales if your parents make a conscious effort to send you to Welsh speaking schools etc...

I'm an illegal immigrant - I just married a valleys gal!

              Re: Christmas Poems

              Not far at all.

I just wanted to say thanks to you Di for two things.

Firstly this thread. I run a local community choir and have decided as a direct result of this thread that instead of just having musical items this year in the concerts we'll have some Christmas readings (serious and humorous so keep them coming people).

Secondly and most importantly I wanted to thank you, and I suspect lots of others on here feel the same, for being such a positive inspiration. You cannot realise how much you've helped me over the last few weeks just through being you with your thank yous and normal lovely comments. It's a very special trait and you're lucky to have it. Thank you so much!

A friend like you is a special gift
                  worth more than finest gold.
You've been there in my darkest hours
with a comforting hand to hold.
You know my thoughts before I speak,
we share our hopes and fears and
when life brings us joy and grief,
we share our smiles and tears.
You're generous with your time and love,
always there with a hand to lend.
Life wouldn't be as rich without you.
I'm so happy to call you friend.

Thing with running a choir is we have a Summer break, back in September and only 12 weeks to learn all the new stuff, so need to stay on top of things.

Anyway, I'm off to bed now, so good night, sleep tight! Chat tomorrow.

                                Christmas Really Isn't About Toys

                                Christmas really isn't about toys,
However much we love them, young and old.
Reductions in the fat of Christmas day
In time restore its vigor and its health.
So let us not display our absent wealth,
Though children should have ample chance to play.
More sweet and joyous music must be sung,
And thoughts of peace and mercy make their way
Silent and uncluttered through the noise.
