Re: Is anyone Preparing for Xmas Yet ?

Found out over the weekend that we've been invited to BIL's girlfriends for Christmas Lunch, well thats handy me thinks, will be the first time I've not done the cooking for ooooo around 30 years, have a small problem though, I usually have my uncle round too, so am going to have to see if I can bring him too, otherwise I won't go, or he could be going away again to a nice hotel for a few days like he did last year. Hopefully it will be ok and we can have a relaxing time this year.
There's also a chance that we will be able to get away after for a week or two in the sun, but that really depends on what 'deals' there are in the travel agents. Am going to start pro-actively looking as from mid November.

To add to the Ferrero Rocher (no Bud they won't be mouldy by Christmas, i have checked the sell by dates!) I have bought a big tin of Quality Street. Can't believe it's been in the house since saturday and it's still unopened lol.

Re: Is anyone Preparing for Xmas Yet ?

My Xmas celebrations...........start with a fab party from work over a whole weekend. My new bosses a Swiss based firm are having their xmas do is in St Moritz and all the staff and their partners are being flown out to Zurich from all their offices UK,Sweeden,Germany,USA and Switzerland, including partners and then collected by coach and taken to one of the top hotels in the world. I am beginning to warm to them now - but still not liking the new accounts package they are imposing on me - but hey with treat their staff like this I will just have to get used to it.

Well we have been invited over to my cousins on Xmas day. All I have to do is take over 1 or 2 deserts, so I have it really very easy. I might make a Tirimisu and a nice fruit platter.

Boxing Day - I have tickets for the Fulham v Tottenham match (VIP) from work, I have never been to a footie match as far as I can remember so heres to a first and my team is Spurs but our seats are on the Fulham side just above the Fulham bunker- so that should be fun.

Re: Is anyone Preparing for Xmas Yet ?

My Christmas period will follow the normal format:

Christmas Eve: Running a Karaoke Disco at my local pub. Wrap it all up by 11.30pm. Get home and help OH put all the pressies for the kids out.

Christmas Day: Up at 5am to see the kids open their presents (even if they are 18, 17 and 13 respectively these days). See OH off to work at 7am. Then make slap-up breakfast for kids and me. 11am will be putting the (very large) chicken on to cook (nobody in my household likes Turkey) and prepare all of the veg. Expect my parents to turn up sometime around this time to see the kids. See parents off by 12.30pm. Mother-in-Law should be turning up by this time to spend Christmas Day and Christmas lunch with us. As soon as MIL turns up, leave her to keep an eye on cooking chicken and to start the prepared veg at appropriate time, whilst I head down to the pub for an hour or so. 2pm return home to help complete preparing Chrsitmas dinner. 3.30pm OH arrives home and shortly after all sit down to dinner. Rest of day slob around feeling stuffed after all the food.

Boxing Day: Another relaxing day (sod the sales). 7pm head out of house to run another Karaoke Disco down at my local pub. Home by 2am (if I am lucky) !!

Re: Is anyone Preparing for Xmas Yet ?

Nooooooooo! You can't put a Chrsitmas tree up in November! Although there's houses by us that have had the trees up and the entire front of the house lit up like Blackpool for 2 weeks now......
My tree will be put up on the first Sunday of December at the earliest, if I decide to have a real tree it will be later. Although the decorations are ready and waiting (but that's cos they never made it up to the loft from last year lol)

Sorry but I'm a traditionalist and stick to the Twelve Days rule, thats long enough for me, but then we only have a 7 ft tree and a garland (both fibre optic) over the fireplace. We have got lights for outside the house but not sure if we will be putting them up this year as we've had the drive etc done this year, might stick some lights round me palm tree though, that will look nice.

Actually I have a friend whose decorations are down and packed away on Boxing Day morning, she says she can't stand the dust collecting on them, yet she loves Christmas.

Re: Is anyone Preparing for Xmas Yet ?

Well I been saving all my loose change since beginning of year, I took another load today and so far we have £287 of Morrisons stamps and I will have 2 £25 vouchers cause we split the shopping in 2 and get 2 receipts so we will have about £350 for the big shop.
I have bought Gin, Baileys and Vodka already when they were on offer (they are safe as long as I have some Rum in)lol.
So it's all going ok so far.

The only thing ive been concerned about is getting the internet delivery date I want, so I have to keep popping on to check, but ive wrote my shopping list, so Im making head way, £350 sounds great for the big shop!!, I think ill have to split the extras between the next 4 shops

My xmas is almost sorted. Got the eldests main prezzie (laptop i got free with the phone i bought her for her birthday, which is on monday and most of the wee ones.

Going to my sisters for christmas dinner so no expense of buying all the trimmings, although i will miss my M&S turkey crown this year i must admit.

Ive put £30 in an envelope weeks ago, this is for the taxi home meaning the wife and I can both enjoy the champers etc lol

Just got to start picking up some bits and pieces for the missus, the usual perfume, CDs, undies etc

Roll on January though, for as much as i enjoy xmas once it arrives, i am always glad to see the back of it
