not in terms of championships won, pole postion, ruthless aggression and as a rookie he was good as well, although and I will concede this, he was not winning championships in his first year in F1

I think people forget that there were other brilliant drivers because MS was so recent. MS even said that he could never do what Fangio did and couldnt equal his talent

                STATS
                Victories

Michael Schumacher 91 (36.69% of starts)
                Juan Manuel Fangio 24 (47.06%)

Ignoring the anomalous inclusions of the Indianapolis 500 in the beginning of the World Championship, Juan Manuel Fangio’s staggering win rate of 47.06% remains one of the toughest records to break in Formula One.
                Pole positions

                Michael Schumacher 68 (27.2%)
                Ayrton Senna 65 (40.37%)
                Jim Clark 33 (45.83%)
                (…)
                Juan Manual Fangio 29 (56.86%)
Again, Schumacher had the outright statistical record by volume but not by strike-rate. Not only do Fangio and Jim Clark have higher strike rates, but so does Ayrton Senna, who very nearly scored as many pole positions.
Indeed, Schumacher ‘only’ managed three more than Senna despite making 88 more appearances.

                Fastest laps

                Michael Schumacher 76 (30.6%)
                Alain Prost 41 (20.6%)
                Jim Clark 28 (38.89%)
                Juan Manuel Fangio 23 (45.10%

Back to the thread... Lewis Hamilton is a darn good driver and we could be watching , if he continues to learn and develop, one of the worlds newest and greatest racing drivers in the making.

(I still stand by the fact that Fangio and Senna are still the greatest drivers )
