4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.

Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival.

Check out the things that you can do with it:

    FIRST
    Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is
    112.

If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency,
dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you,
and interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

    SECOND
Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry?
This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!'

    THIRD
    Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the
instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

    FOURTH
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.

When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code.

They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.

If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

ATM - PIN Number Reversal - Good to Know

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN # in reverse. For example, if your pin number is 1234, then you would put in 4321.

The ATM system recognizes that your PIN number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine.

The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to the location.

This information was recently broadcast on CTV by Crime Stoppers however it is seldom used because people just don't know about it. Please pass this along to everyone.

Rumours have been in e-mail circulation claiming that in the event of entering a PIN into an ATM backwards, police will be instantly alerted as well as money being ordinarily issued as if the PIN had been entered correctly.[7] The intention of this scheme would be to protect victims of muggings; however, despite the system being proposed for use in some American states, there are no ATMs currently in existence that employ the software.

I am going to go try the car key one...will report back lol

      Samsung’s emergency phone

      24 February 2009

The Samsung SPH-W7100 is fitted with an ultra-loud alarm with direct access to emergency services

It's a sad sign of the times, but Samsung has introduced a new phone that aims to protect you from any harm you may encounter.

According to Engadget, the Samsung SPH-W7100 is fitted with an emergency alarm that, when triggered, will blare out a deafening 100 decibels, presumably to both scare off your attacker and alert passers by, while immediately contacting the local emergency services. With built-in GPS, the authorities will be able to determine your position, which will hopefully mean a swift response to your cry for help.

The Samsung SPH-W7100 is set to be launched next month in Korea, primarily targeting women and children, with a US arrival expected soon after. Depending on the success in these two countries, we could well be seeing (and hearing) the Samsung SPH-W1700 on the streets of Great Britain.

Two things many people seem to have forgotten what a mobile phone can do

              • make calls
              • receive calls

It's a phone, the rest is just faff.

Wot you CAN do is register the phone with a company that allows you to track it's whereabouts. Needless to say (& often much to their annoyance) I can find out where my kids are as & when I choose

Re: 4 things you never knew your mobile could do....

At work we used to use a similar system linked to the cab phones to track the whereabouts of our lorries, only problem (or not ) was that this can be evaded by simply turning off the phone.

We now have a tracking system again based on mobile technology but it is hard wired separately to the phones and unless obviously tampered with can not be disarmed. Pain in the arse it is at times lol.

ICE - In Case of Emergency

The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact
during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the
majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a
contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under
the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a
paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there
were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number
                        to call.

He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a
nationally recognised name for this purpose.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff
would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply
dialling the number you have stored as 'ICE'.

ie you may have 'ICE PKea 07918 123123' stored in your phone so they would know to call this person

My mobile has an SOs, ie in case of emergency you press the button on the outside of the phone, and it sends a message saying Emergency, please help, or something similar. Allegedly. I say allegedly because when ever I have tried to test is it has never worked. Until last week, when my OH got the emergency message whilst he was in the bath. He did not immediately jump out of the bath and summon emergency service to my rescue, because he knew exactly where I was and that I wasn't in an emergency (well eithr that or he didn't care one way or the other lol).
At the time he received the message, my phone was alone, unaccompanied, in my car, with no-one anywhere near it to press any buttons, so God only knows where the message popped up from!
                          Is no longer here

Mine has that facility, you can pre program a text message and up to 3 numbers as recipients.
You have to press the up volume button 4 times and it sends the message.
It does advise you to let the recipients beforehand know though..lol
