  • How stupid are some people.

Before you read on just to let you know that although I am seeing the funny side of this I am actually bloody furious and its really upset me this has.

Ok, as you all know my mum passed away July 21 this year and I have just opened a redirected letter from the Electricity Board whom she and my father worked for for over 20 years each.

    Here's the letter:

    Christmas Luncheon at .................................................. .....

You are cordially invited to attend the ....... Electricity R.E.A. Christmas Luncheon, which has been arranged for 8 Dec 2008 at The ...................., the venue for the last few years.
As in other years, this luncheon is given by the Company with the excess amount not covered being met from the Associations funds. I shall be please if you will kindly complete the slip below and return it to me by the 28 Nov 2008, in order that details may be given to The ............... regarding numbers.

    etc etc

    Regards

Attached with the invitation is a quarterly Newsletter which has a list of 'Obituaries' and guess what .... yes my mothers name is on it.
So I have penned the following letter in response, if anyone would like to have a go at editing, adjusting, checking the grammar I'd really appreciate it.

    Dear Mrs .................,

    Re: Mrs............................................... ....................

Thank you for your circular dated October 2008, in which you invite my mother to attend the Christmas Luncheon at The ................................, on 8 December 2008.

Unfortunately I have to inform you that my mother will be unable to attend as she has a prior engagement with my father at the cemetery in ......................, which is actually also her new residence. Perhaps you would like to send her some flowers and update your records accordingly.

She actually passed away on 21 July 2008 and I wrote to inform you a few days later, which you have confirmed as you have entered her name on the ’Obituaries’ list in the Newsletter enclosed with the Christmas dinner invitation.

I am sorry for the sarcasm in my letter, but I felt it would be better to try to be witty about this as my mother would have actually seen the funny side of this.

I look forward to your confirmation that you have now updated your records accordingly.

    Yours faithfully,

Sapphire, I think your letter gets to the point in a nice way. As you say, your mum would have seen the funny side and I am sure, if thats the kind of lady she was she would see the funny side in your reply. I think they will get the message and if it where me, feel rightly embarrased.

Sapph, great letter. Except it should be "yours sincerely".
