As Amethyst implied, it is a matter for consideration and legal guidance.

I know her solicitor well. She certainly knows her stuff. She is a specialist in internet defamation and advised Mumsnet on their high profile defamation case (won) and also represented Salman Rushdie in his recent libel victory.

        Amethyst

I do sympathise with you here

It is a difficult decision. You have asked for right of reply but I think there is a bit of a mood been whipped up which would make things difficult.

It would depend on how much power the site has over its members - not a lot I guess.

The only way I could see it working is that they put a freeze on collection of donations. Then explained there would be a question and answer session between two people only.
You both had set questions that you could ask each other which you would see before hand and all members of the forum would be asked not to comment anywhere on the site.

Cant see it happening myself - can you?

Surely it would be better to have an independant person who would run a discussion away from the forum and then publish the result and tell all site members to then accept the decsion and consider the matter closed once and for all.
